Director Steven Spielberg’s classic 1982 Sci-Fi/Adventure film E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial was a colossal success, surpassing Star Wars as the highest grossing film of all time. Besides its combination of alien visitors and suburban reality, the film also proved to be a mammoth success for Reese’s Pieces candy, which were used in the film after candy-maker Mars Inc. turned down Spielberg’s request to use M&Ms—they didn’t like the script. The authentic human characters and normal day-to-day situations made the film very relatable to large audiences of people and helped launch Reese’s Pieces into one of the world’s most popular candy treats. Here’s another treat to help you celebrate the 40th anniversary of this beloved film, a limited-edition, legal-tender coin that was struck in the shape of the film’s big-eyed little alien.

The Story Of E.T. Told In Pure Silver

This 2022-dated coin was struck in a full ounce of highly pure 99.9% fine silver and is a captivating full-color image of E.T. dressed in human clothes holding a Speak and Spell™ toy with which he uses to communicate with his human friends. His closest human friend is 10-year-old Elliott Taylor played by Henry Thomas. E.T. had been left behind on Earth after he got separated from his companions when U.S. government agents surprised them and nearly captured their spaceship. He escaped by hiding in the Taylor family’s tool shed. Using tools and toys from the Taylor household, E.T. tries to “Phone Home” and is ultimately rescued by his extraterrestrial companions with help from Elliott and his family and their friends

Released on behalf of Niue, a small island nation in the South Pacific Ocean, these legal-tender $2 coins come in gleaming Gem Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) condition, meaning that they are products of a superb strike that places them firmly among the elite of the run! Plus, each coin will come protected in a special acrylic capsule to accommodate the unique shape, and beautifully housed in a special 40th Anniversary of E.T. themed display box with a display window.
