The coin was so trusted across the globe, it literally set the gold standard for all future gold coins.  The only coin to be struck on five continents, the Sovereign was the “original American Express card” accepted almost everywhere on the planet. It was so universally accepted around the world that both American and British pilots carried them as emergency currency incase they got shot down.
