An eye-shaped amulet that is believed to protect against the evil eye, or the belief that someone can curse or wish ill upon you. The word nazar comes from Arabic and means “sight”, “surveillance”, or “attention”. The amulet is also known as the nazar boncuğu in Turkey, where it is a popular good luck charm and souvenir. In Greece, it is called the máti, which means “eye”.
