2021 Tuvalu Tears of the Moon 2 oz .999 Antiqued Silver Coin
According to ancient Incan legends, the Goddess Mama Quilla shed tears of silver to prevent the world from falling into complete darkness. These silver tears ultimately fell to earth where they were mined as a precious metal. Now, the expert artisans at Australia’s world-renowned Perth Mint have created a remarkable coin that contains actual silver shards? Could these be some of the “tears” shed by Mama Quilla?
The Goddess of the Moon
Struck in two full ounces of highly pure 99.99% silver, this coin features an actual dome made of Perspex, a transparent plastic known as acrylic glass. That dome has been carefully embedded into the coin’s surface and contains actual silver shards or “tears” suspended in purified mineral oil that illustrate the story in vivid detail. Surrounding the dome along the edge of the coin is an artistic design of Mama Quilla and several of her animal adversaries. Mama Quilla is regarded as the Goddess of the Moon and it is said that when lunar eclipses occur it is because she has been attacked by animals. Revered as the defender of women, her connection to the moon makes her a vital component to the Incan calendar.
