2013 1 oz Australian .999 Silver Megafauna Procoptodon Proof Coin
The Perth Mint of Australia has long been producing coins which celebrate the vast array of wildlife that has called the large island continent home. While there are countless animals and species living in Australia now, there are countless more who have gone extinct. The 1 oz Australian Silver Megafauna Procoptodon celebrates a kangaroo-like animal that went extinct roughly 50,000 years ago. This interesting proof coin has a design and characteristics the likes of which you will find on few other coins, and for that reason it is especially popular for both collectors and investors.
The 1 oz Silver Procoptodon proof coin is comprised of .999 pure silver and is part of a limited, 6,500 coin, mintage. The coins reverse was designed by Peter Trusler, a world-renowned artist and zoological expert. The reverse features a Procoptodon against a natural, colorized background with a young Procoptodon in its pouch. Above the animals image is an inscription which reads PROCOPTODON while the weight and purity indications are located on the bottom of the reverse.
